Deferments and Temporary Credits on Loans

Federal Stafford Loan

What is a temporary credit?

A temporary credit is based on the amount of loan actually certified, or, if the loan is not certified, the amount of recommended Stafford Loan on your Financial Aid Notice.

A temporary credit is applied to your Spring 2009 student billing account for the Spring portion of your approved Stafford Loan; it will be removed in early January, to coincide with your lender’s disbursement of loan funds.

Federal PLUS and Grad PLUS Loans

What about the temporary credit on Federal PLUS and Grad PLUS Loans?

Temporary credits are based only on the amount of loan actually approved, and reflect a 3% lender origination fee reduction. Actual fees may be between 3% and 4%, depending on your lender. The temporary credit will be removed in early January to coincide with your lender’s disbursement of loan fundsl
