Student Refunds

If you are an active student and have a credit balance, not as a result of temporary credits, you may be entitled to receive a refund. Refunds can be produced via a check or through Direct Deposit.

Wachovia Bank has been selected as the University’s Treasury Services Provider. Effective November 15, 2006, all student refund checks will be issued by and drawn on Wachovia Bank.

  • If you receive a paper check you can continue to deposit or cash your check at your personal bank, or cash it at ANY Wachovia branch, for NO FEE with two forms of I.D. (one of which must be government issued).

  • Effective September 4, 2007, PNC will no longer be cashing student refund checks for non-PNC customers.

  • Citizens Bank will no longer cash refund checks issued after November 15, 2006 for non-account holders.

Student Financial Services’ preferred method of processing your refund is via Direct Deposit. If you are an active student and have a credit balance, you may be entitled to receive a refund. In fact, over 50% of Penn students receive a refund annually. To receive your refund, you must enter your bank account information in our new, online, secure website. In addition, your bank account information will also be used by the University’s Payroll Office if you are working at Penn; this would include work-study jobs and other Penn employment. Sign up online on our secure website here: https://medley.isc-seo.upenn.edu/uatPenn/jsp/fast.do?fastStart=directdep

Accounts must be with a domestic financial institution (bank or credit union); accounts in foreign financial institutions are not eligible. It takes at least two (2) weeks for the information to become active upon receipt of your account information.

Contact Student Financial Services, Room 100 Franklin Building, by phone at 215-898-1988 or via e-mail at sfsmail@sfs.upenn.edu if you have any questions.
