Professional Judgment (Special Circumstances)

Special circumstances can affect a student’s financial aid situation, including a change in family circumstances, traumatic events or reductions in income that may occur while the student is enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania. This may result in the need to clarify the student’s situation with the Student Financial Services office.

Students that require information regarding the Dependency Override process, follow this link.

Students/Parents that require information regarding the Income Reduction Review Process should contact Student Financial Services. Students/Parents should be prepared to itemize the change in income and provide copies of all applicable documentation (IRS tax return transcripts, W2 forms, proof of marital separation, letter from former employer, etc...).

Request for Professional Judgment (Special Circumstances) consideration does not guarantee the receipt of new or additional financial aid.
